Skip your morning coffee and make yourself a pre-workout mocha smoothie. It makes a small serving so you won’t feel over full, contains easily digestible carbohydrates and protein to fuel your body for exercise, and provides a little caffeine boost to get yourself going. The more ice cubes you add to your smoothie, the better hydrated you will be going into your workout! So load up on the ice!

*Be sure to drink plenty of water during and after your workout!

  • 1/2 cup brewed coffee
  • 1 banana
  • 3 to 4 dates
  • 2 tbs Unflavoured hemp protein powder
  • 9 to 12 ice cubes

  • Brew a single serving of coffee and allow it to cool.
  • If your dates are dry, you can allow them to soften in 125ml of coffee while it cools.
  • Place the coffee, dates, banana, and protein powder in your blender, and blend until smooth.
  • Add the ice cubes to you blender and put it on ice crush mode for a few seconds, until the ice has been broken up into tiny pieces.

And if you were wondering where I have been the past two weeks and why you didn’t receive a new recipe last week….

First we spent 3 days relaxing at the cottage, and Sean got some great wildlife photos…

Then I tried to make a new recipe…

They were suppose to be healthy homemade fruit snacks….

But the texture was HORRIBLE!

They may be better if I use more gelatin, but I don’t think its worth it. I can put my frozen strawberries to much better use!

Next, we made wonton soup!

It was actually delicious, but the wonton wrappers weren’t really made from the most wholesome ingredients. Oh well, everything in moderation. The recipe was really easy, and we used plenty of fresh herbs from our garden.

  • 1 Package wonton wrappers
  • 1lb extra lean ground turkey
  • 1 onion – diced
  • 1 bell pepper – diced
  • 2 tbs fresh chives – minced
  • 5 large fresh basil leaves – minced
  • 8 large fresh oregano leaves – minced
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 carton low sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 tbs grape see oil or extra virgin olive oil

  • Saute onions in a small amount of oil. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes
  • Place onions, ground turkey, bell pepper, fresh herbs, salt and pepper in a mixing bowl, and combine well.
  • Add the egg to the mixture and mix until it is fully incorporated.
  • Bring the vegetable broth to a boil
  • Lay the wonton wrappers out on a dry cutting board.
  • Place a small spoonful of the ground turkey mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  • Wet the edges of the wonton wrapper with a small amount of water. Bring all four corners of the wrapper to the center and press together. Press each adjacent side together until the meat is fulling enclosed in the wrapper. There are many ways to fold the wontons, but this way allowed the greatest filling to wrapper ratio.
  • Use a spoon to lower the wontons gently into the boiling broth.
  • Boil for about 5 minutes or until the turkey is fully cooked.
  • Remove from heat and it is ready to serve! (Caution Hot!)
