30 Days of Vegetables – Day 12

If I were to order a smoothie at a restaurant, 99% of the time, it would be a strawberry banana smoothie. Strawberries and bananas always taste great together. It’s a safe choice, but it definitely wouldn’t have the nutrient content that today’s Strawberry and Celery Smoothie has.

Strawberry and celery smoothie? Not exactly the safe choice, but it’s surprisingly good. And this is coming from a person that doesn’t particularly like celery.

This week, I have come up with two smoothie recipes in which I can enjoy the health benefits of Celery! See Mixed Veggie and Fruit Smoothie…

  1. Low calorie
  2. High water content
  3. Good source of fibre

Another thing I learned this week about my fruit combination preferences, was that adding an orange to a strawberry banana smoothie really intensifies the flavour! Often times, restaurants add sugar to their smoothies to please their customers tastebuds. Obviously, this isn’t great for your health or your waistline. So next time you need a little extra sweetness in your morning smoothie, add an orange! Not table sugar!

 * Note: These strawberries are frozen, not covered in sugar :) I guess I didn’t seal the bag very well before putting it in the freezer!

  • 1 Orange
  • 2 Stalks celery
  • 1 Banana
  • 2 cups Frozen strawberries – Softened slightly

Optional Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Fresh Spinach
  • 2 tbs Hemp hearts
  • 1/2 Cottage Cheese

* Note: For aesthetic purposes, I didn’t add spinach to this smoothie, but if you can get over the colour, I highly recommend adding spinach to every smoothie you make! The more the better!

Place all ingredients in your blender in the order listed. Always put the ingredients with the largest water content in first. This prevents the blender from “sticking”. Blend until smooth.
