How to properly stretch your shoulder:

  • This stretch can be done sitting or standing.
  • Lift one arm straight out in front, in line with the shoulder.
  • Keeping the arm straight at the elbow, hold onto the forearm with the opposite hand and pull the arm across the body and into the chest.
  • Make sure you are not holding the arm at the elbow, and that you are keeping the shoulder down and relaxed

 What you should feel when stretching your shoulder:

  • You should feel this stretch from the top of the shoulder blade, around to the front of the shoulder, where the shoulder muscles meet the tricep muscles.
  • If you feel pinching in the front of the shoulder, release the stretch, circle the arm backwards, then try the stretch again.
  • Hold the stretch for 30 seconds, and repeat with the other arm.
